Low Carbon Efficiency Summit
Preconference
July 13, 2021 ~ Des Moines, Iowa
Interest in accessing the premium available in low carbon fuel markets was robust amongst producers well before the margin-constrained market conditions of today. Now, as management teams work to maintain profitability in a challenging environment their importance has only intensified. This day-long workshop will include discussions about not only the technical aspects of driving down a plant’s carbon intensity but also the processes required to properly document those efforts and strategies for marketing these carbon-reduced fuels to the markets asking for them.

Gauging Ethanol’s Likely Future in the Push for a Low-Carbon Economy
Read Description
As expected, the Biden administration wasted no time in driving clean energy provisions into its sweeping infrastructure spending bill, amplifying the urgency for ethanol producers to examine their production via the lens of carbon intensity. This panel will set the stage for the discussions that follow by framing up the opportunity for industry participants ready to aggressively pursue a carbon strategy at their plant, and the risk of lost opportunity for those producers still on the fence.

What’s the Score? Why a Strategic Effort to Lower Carbon Intensity Must Be a Part of Your Plant’s Go-Forward Operational Strategy
Read Description
Once committed to low-carbon production producers will next need to understand their plant’s carbon intensity, how it is determined and how it should be documented and reported. Once producers establish a thorough understanding of carbon intensity and how it is calculated, they will be in a better position to evaluate technology and process deployments that promise reduced carbon intensity of produced fuel including the two featured in this panel and those featured later in the agenda.

Deployable Approaches for Lowering your Plant’s Carbon Intensity Score
Read Description
This panel will focus entirely on technological options available to ethanol producers ready to drive down the carbon intensity of their operation now. The presentations in this panel illustrate that while the ambition of low-carbon fuel production may be common, the pathways producers will ultimately pursue are likely to be highly varied. Topics covered during the discussion range from low carbon soil amendments for corn production all the way to cellulosic ethanol production from corn fiber.

Attacking the Energy Gobbling Waypoints in Your Production Process to Capture Both Savings and CI-Score Improvements
Read Description
Long before the promise of low-carbon fuel markets, energy efficiency deployments won the attention of plant management teams with the promise of reduced expenses and the resultant profit margin improvements. Now, in an era of low-carbon fuel markets, the argument for capital spending aimed at increased efficiency has never been stronger. This final panel features technologies that can drive down operational expenses while simultaneously driving down an ethanol plant’s carbon score.
